Version(s): 7.5

Fact: Installing Alphablox 8.2 for Primavera 7.5
Problem: Installation issues with Alphablox 8.2 for Primavera 7.5
Fix:

Installing Alphablox 8.2 for Primavera 7.5

The following procedure outlines the installation instructions for Alphablox 8.2 in Primavera Version 7.5.

This updates and clarifies information available in both the 7.5 Release Notes (RN75.pdf) and 7.5 System Administrator Guide (sysadmin.pdf). You抣l need to refer to both documents during the installation process.  These documents can be found in the ‘\Primavera\docroot\help\en\doc’ folder.

This document is divided into the following sections:

  • Alphablox 8.2 Prerequisites

  • If you use an MS SQL Database Repository

    • New Alphablox Installation using an MS SQL Database Repository

    • Upgrading an Existing Alphablox Instance using an MS SQL Database Repository

  • If You Use an Oracle Database Repository

    • New Alphablox Installation using an Oracle Database Repository

    • Upgrading an Existing Alphablox Instance using an Oracle Database Repository

Alphablox 8.2 Prerequisites

Whether or not you抮e upgrading Alphablox or installing Alphablox for the first time, you must meet the following requirements before installing Alphablox 8.2:

  • An MS SQL or Oracle database must be available for the installation. This is the 慉lphabloxDB?database described on page 38 of the v7.5 Primavera System Administrator Guide.

If upgrading, this will be your existing 慉lphabloxDB?database from the previous version.

  • Prior to installing Alphablox 8.2, you must install a JDBC driver specific to your database type, described on page 10 of the 7.5 Release Notes.

    • For Oracle, the URL provided in the 7.5 release notes takes you to an Oracle website with a list of jdbc drivers. Please select the driver described below:

ojdbc14.jar (1,352,918 bytes) – classes for use with JDK 1.4

and download this .jar file to your Alphablox host. Note that you抣l have to register with the Oracle website prior to downloading.

?SPAN style=”FONT: 7pt ‘Times New Roman’”>         For MS SQL, follow the instructions from the URL provided in the 7.5 release notes. As noted in the release notes: ?/SPAN>You must run an installer for the Microsoft drivers. Afterwards, the drivers are found in:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib

You抣l use this path later in one of the Alphablox installer screens, documented in the subsequent section.

If you use an MS SQL Database Repository

New Alphablox Installation using an MS SQL Database Repository

This section provides additional information on a new installation of Alphablox pointed to an empty MS SQL database repository.

During installation of Alphablox, follow the instructions in section 2.3.4 in the System Administrator Guide but note the following additional steps:

  1. In the 慍hoose Application Server?screen, if you are using WebLogic, choose 慦ebLogic?from the drop-down (documentation refers to 慦ebLogic8?which is no longer listed).

  2. In 慍hoose J2SE SDK Location? select the jdk1.4.2 folder in your BEA root directory. If using the default path, this is c:\bea\jdk142_05.

  3. In 慐nable JDBC Drivers? select the location of your jdbc files:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC\lib

  4. Click 慐nable JDBC Drivers?and confirm the driver is enabled.

  5. In 慍onfigure Repository? the 慡erver?and 慏atabase Server?values are your database server host and are identical.

Continue with the rest of the installation following the System Administrator Guide.

Upgrading an Existing Alphablox Instance using an MS SQL Database Repository

To upgrade an existing Alphablox instance (version 5.1.1), launch the Alphablox 8.2 install.exe file and follow the instructions.

Screens to note:

  1. In 慍onfirm Upgrade? select the default, 慉uto-Upgrade?

  5. In 慍onfigure Repository?leave the defaults (it automatically finds the existing database) and click Next. You do not need to supply the 慏atabase Server?value.

Continue with the rest of the installation following the System Administrator Guide.

If You Use an Oracle Database Repository

This section provides additional information on both new and upgrade installations of Alphablox pointed to an Oracle database repository.

New Alphablox Installation using an Oracle Database Repository

During installation of Alphablox, follow the instructions in section 2.3.4 in the System Administrator Guide but note the following additional steps:

  1. In the 慍hoose Application Server?screen and using WebLogic choose 慦ebLogic?from the drop-down (documentation refers to 慦ebLogic8?which is no longer listed).

  2. In 慍hoose J2SE SDK Location? select the jdk1.4.2 folder in your BEA root directory. If using the default path, this is c:\bea\jdk142_05.

  3. In 慐nable JDBC Drivers? select the folder where you placed the 憃jdbc14.jar?file, documented in the previous 慉lphablox 8.2 Prerequisites?section.

  4. Click 慐nable JDBC Drivers?and confirm that the driver is enabled.

5.On the 慍onfigure Repository?screen select 慒ile Repository? This is opposite the instructions in the System Administrator Guide but is required for the Oracle installation. Complete the installation of Alphablox 8.2

6.Once the installation completes, start the 憁ydomain?BEA server once to initialize the Alphablox repository.

7.Shutdown BEA and then launch Start > Programs > IBM DB2 Alphablox > AlphabloxAnalytics > Utilities > Repository Conversion Utility.

8.Select #2, 慡et DB2 Alphablox instance name?and enter AlphabloxAnalytics and press return.

9.Select #4, 慍reate an empty database repository?and provide the necessary values for the empty Oracle user dedicated for Alphablox. Verify that creation completed successfully by reviewing the text output.

10.After #4 completes, select #6, 慍hange DB2 Alphablox to use a different repository?and provide the necessary values to find the same Oracle user from the previous step. Verify that the process completed successfully by reviewing the text output.

11.After #6 completes, select #9 to exit.

This completes the Oracle installation for Alphablox 8.2.

Upgrading an Existing Alphablox Instance using an Oracle Database Repository

To upgrade an existing Alphablox instance (version 5.5.1), follow the instructions in the Primavera 7.5 Release Notes but note the following additional steps during the installation:

1.   Note that the 7.5 release notes refers to the v5.5.1 ’OracleDriver.jar’ file. This should be ‘OracleDriver.zip’. Substitute the correct file name when reading the release notes.

2.In the 慍hoose J2SE SDK Location?screen, select the jdk 1.4.2 folder in your BEA root directory. If using the default path, this is c:\bea\jdk142_05.

3.After selecting the correct folder where the two jdbc files reside as documented in the 7.5 release notes, in the 慍hoose J2SE SDK Location?screen, click 慐nable JDBC Drivers?and confirm the driver is enabled.

Complete the installation and final steps per the 7.5 Release Notes.
